A Blessing Way is traditionally a Navajo Ritual created to spiritually support and empower the new mother for her journey of birthing and motherhood. This beautiful ritual has been adapted as an alternative to baby showers, where the focus tends to be more on the gifts and the baby, rather than on the mother and her experience. Some women choose to have both a baby shower and a blessing way since the celebrations are so different from each other.

A Blessing Way will often include sharing positive birth stories, wishes, and prayers for the mother, henna belly art, pampering the guest of honor with foot baths, massages, healing foods and fun. Adorning the mother to be with flowers, songs, stories and most importantly love. Sometimes beads or stones are given by each guest to create a birthing necklace or bracelet that the birthing women can ware during birth to support her in feeling the women who are with her during her labor. Candles are often gifted to the guests to light when the mother goes into labor so that we keep a vigil lite for her and her family through the birth of her baby and herself.

I work with each client to dream up her unique vision of her Blessing Way. Services may include - planning the event, venue selection, basic supplies for the Blessing Way, creating content, ie: poems to read, songs to sing, activities, rituals, contacting your guests, orchestrating the ceremony and anything else needed! This is a joy-filled day that helps the birthing mother sink into the trust and support of her friends in this great time of transition.
